Hire a Mariachi Band for Your Wedding
A mariachi band at your wedding isn’t background music — it’s an event within the event. When seven musicians in charro suits start playing as guests arrive for cocktail hour, the whole atmosphere shifts. People put their phones down. They start talking to strangers. It’s one of the most reliable crowd-unifying entertainment choices you can make.
How Couples Actually Use Mariachi at Weddings
The most common booking we see is the cocktail hour — 60-90 minutes of strolling music while the wedding party is doing photos and guests are getting settled. This works at almost any venue and any wedding size. The band moves through the crowd, plays requests, does a serenata if the couple wants it. It’s interactive and natural.
Some couples incorporate mariachi into the ceremony itself — the processional, the recessional, or a musical piece during the ceremony program. This works especially well for outdoor ceremonies where the live sound carries naturally without amplification.
Others book mariachi for the reception dinner — either as the primary entertainment or for a dedicated set during dinner service. For Mexican-American families planning the reception, mariachi during dinner is often non-negotiable. The band plays, abuela cries, everyone sings along to “Las Mañanitas” — this is what the event is built around. Couples in San Antonio frequently book us for exactly this — the tradition runs deep here.
What Size Band Do You Need?
For most wedding cocktail hours, a 4-6 piece band works well. They can stroll, they’re mobile, and they don’t need a stage setup. For receptions where the mariachi is the primary entertainment and the hall has 150+ guests, 7-8 musicians give you the full sound and visual presence the event calls for. A 3-piece trio is intimate and works for smaller weddings or rehearsal dinners.
We’ll ask about your guest count, venue size, and what role you want the mariachi to play in the event — then we’ll match you with the right size and style of band.
Attire, Song Lists, and Requests
Our bands wear traditional charro suits — this isn’t optional, it’s part of the presentation. Song repertoires include the classics: “Cielito Lindo,” “La Bamba,” “El Rey,” “Bésame Mucho,” and hundreds more. Most bands accommodate requests on the day, especially for well-known songs. If you have a specific song that’s meaningful — something you want played at the ceremony or during the first dance introduction — let us know at booking and we’ll confirm it’s in the repertoire. We book wedding mariachi bands in Austin and across Texas year-round.
Planning Timeline
For weekend weddings May through October, book 6-8 months out. We’re often fielding calls in October for the following spring and summer. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day) go earliest. If you have a specific date, reach out now — even if the wedding is a year away, confirming your band locks in your date.
